Some commissions are about transforming a space, while others become part of a family's story. My hand-painted children's chairs fall firmly into the latter category.

Each chair I create is individually designed and painted by hand, making it a unique piece that celebrates a child's early years. Whether commissioned as a christening gift, a first birthday present, or a special keepsake for a nursery or playroom, these chairs are made to be both beautiful and meaningful.

There is something timeless about a personalised gift. In an age of mass-produced products, a hand-painted chair offers a level of thoughtfulness and craftsmanship that cannot be found on the high street. Every chair is tailored to the child, often featuring their name, favourite animals, flowers, colours, or themes that hold particular significance for the family.

Many of my commissions are given as christening presents, creating a lasting memento of an important milestone. Unlike many gifts that are quickly outgrown, a painted chair often remains in the family for years, moving from nursery to bedroom and eventually becoming a cherished keepsake that evokes memories of childhood.

The creative process begins with a conversation about the child and the family's ideas. Some clients come with a clear vision, while others simply have a favourite colour palette or motif in mind. From there, I develop a design that reflects the child's personality while ensuring the finished piece feels harmonious and beautifully crafted.

Drawing inspiration from nature, traditional decorative painting, storybook illustrations, and folk art, I create designs that are playful without being overly sentimental. Each brushstroke is applied by hand, ensuring that no two chairs are ever exactly alike.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this work is knowing that these pieces become part of family life. They are used for reading stories, tea parties, drawing sessions, and countless everyday moments that make up childhood. Over time, they become more than furniture; they become treasured objects filled with memories.

I believe that beautiful craftsmanship should be part of daily life, and these hand-painted chairs are a wonderful example of that philosophy. They combine practicality with artistry, creating something that can be enjoyed both as a functional piece and as a lasting keepsake.

If you are looking for a unique christening gift, birthday present, or a personalised piece for a child's room, I welcome bespoke commissions and would be delighted to discuss ideas for a hand-painted chair created especially for your child or loved one.
